To be eligible for a UK Fiancé Visa, you must meet the following requirements: You and your fiancé/fiancée must intend to marry within six months of arriving in the United Kingdom You and your fiancé/fiancée must prove that there is a genuine and subsisting relationship between you both. If we find that this is not the case, we may refuse your application. Both you and your fiancé/fiancée must be aged 18 or over You and your fiancé/fiancée must have met in person before applying (this does not apply to applications from civil partners) If you are married or in a civil partnership it must be legally ended (annulled, dissolved or your civil partnership must have legally ended) before you can apply You must be able to show that you can support yourselves and your fiancé/fiancée without access to public funds.
What documents do I need to provide with my UK Fiancé Visa application?
Along with a completed fiancé visa application form, you will need to provide the following: Your passport (or another travel document) Your fiancé/fiancée’s passport (or another travel document) Evidence of your relationship such as photos together, letters, or emails between you both, evidence of joint financial arrangements, etc. Proof that you intend to marry within six months of arriving in the United Kingdom, for example, a wedding invitation or letter from a registrar confirming the date.
What are the income requirements for a Fiancé Visa?
To be eligible for a Fiancé Visa you must meet certain requirements in terms of income, savings, and/or your fiancé/fiancée’s income. You will need to provide evidence that the couple can support themselves without access to public funds. If you are applying together, one of you must earn £18,600 per year or more (or the equivalent of Euros). If your fiancé/fiancée is applying separately from you or has dependents they may also apply under this category but in this case at least one of the partners must have an annual gross salary of between £16,000 and £18,600 (or the equivalent in Euros).
Documents required for a Fiancé Visa (overseas)
If your fiancé/fiancée is located overseas. You will need to provide all the relevant documents for them as well as yourself. They must provide their passport (or other travel documents), proof of relationship, proof they can support themselves without access to public funds, and evidence that there is no reason why the UK should not grant them a visa (i.e., medical reports, etc.). If you are applying together, with the help of immigration solicitors in London one of you must be earning at least £18,600 per year or more (or the equivalent in Euros).
You will also have to provide financial documents showing that both yourself. Your fiancé/fiancée has savings to cover living expenses for at least six months after arrival in the UK.

What are the income requirements for a Fiancé Visa?
In your Fiance Visa UK application, you will need to provide evidence which demonstrates that you meet certain minimum financial thresholds.
You need to prove to the Home Office that as a couple you have enough money to support yourselves whilst you are in the UK (as well as any dependents included in your application).
Your combined annual income must be at least £18,600. If you have any child dependents who will be joining you, this sum increases by £3,800 for your first child and £2,400 for each child after your first.
You can prove your finances through any of the following:
- Regular salary through employment
- Self-employment
- Statutory sick pay, maternity, paternity, or adoption pay
- Savings
- Stocks and shares
- Pension payments
- Property financial gains, such as a regular income from rent
It is important to note that as a Fiance Visa holder, you will not be classed as a permanent resident and therefore, you will not have access to public funds.
What is the English language requirement?
If you are from a non-English-speaking country, you will need to fulfill an English language requirement as a Fiance Visa applicant, unless you are exempt (more below).
You need to demonstrate that your level of English in reading, writing, listening, and speaking is at least to the level of A1 as set by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
You will need to pass a SELT test at the level of at least A1 at an approved English language test center to prove your English language ability.
Your pass certificate will need to be included in your portfolio of evidence to submit to the Home Office.
You will be exempt from the English language requirement if:
- You hold a degree or higher qualification taught in English at an educational institution recognized by NAIRC
- You are over 65
- You are a recognized refugee
- You are living in the UK as an orphan or widow
- You are a victim of domestic abuse
- You have a mental or physical condition that prevents you from sitting the exam
How Do I Satisfy the Genuine Relationship Requirement?
One of the key UK Fiance Visa requirements is the genuine relationship requirement. You must provide sufficient evidence to prove that you are in a genuine relationship with your UK-based partner.
You will need to provide information such as:
- Bank statements of joint accounts
- Documents showing details of accommodation which you have lived in together
- Birth certificates, if you have had any children together
- Divorce certificates, if applicable
- Reference letters from family, friends, and professional people who can vouch that you are in a genuine relationship
